In Sun's flash sequence we see that she is in London. This scene seems to take place two or more years after her hostile buyout of Paik Industries. Sun approaches Charles Widmore in London, saying that she looks forward to working with him. She says that he knows "we are not the only ones you left the island." Widmore asks why Sun would want to help him, she doesn't reply and only walks away. This implies that Sun is indeed trying to help Widmore, which is to say she's trying to get back to the island. Sun's statement about leaving the island is curious. Does she mean to say that Widmore, like her, had left the island at some point and is having trouble getting back? Or does Sun mean that Locke has left the island, like the Oceanic 6 and Ben, and this causes problems for Sun and Widmore... it'll be interesting to learn more about their partnership.
Locke and The Others
As ben is moving the island, Locke rendezvous with Alpert and the Others. Alpert greets Locke, saying "welcome home," something we've been waiting to see since the end of 'Cabin Fever'. Locke is now, as far as he and Ben are concerned, the undisputed leader of the Others. Ben even says that they will impart all of their knowledge to Locke, something he's been wanting since the first season. The transition of power from Ben to Locke seems complete after this episode. Ben has made a clean break from the island and the Others. Locke is welcomed by the Others and is told that he has free reign over them.Season Five
As we head into the fifth season of Lost there are plenty of questions that remain. We know that the Oceanic 6 are split into two groups, those that want to go back to the island and those who do not. Jack and Hurley are clearly willing to go back, while Sun may be trying to get back but on her own terms. Kate clearly does not want to return, despite what her feelings for Sawyer may be. Claire came to Kate in a vision and told her quite directly that Aaron should not be returned to the island. Sayid doesn't seem to have any reason to want to get back but when he takes Hurley from Santa Rosa he does make a point that he's not going back to the island but rather to somewhere safe. I do think Ben will try and slip back to the island with the Oceanic 6. With Locke dead there may be a power vacuum on the island he'd be more than happy to fill.I'm hoping that the first episode of season five will be Locke centric, showing at least one of his off-island visits to the Oceanic 6 or Walt.
One big change I'm expecting next season is that the time orientation of the show will change. Which is to say, we'll not be seeing 'current time' scenes featuring on-island events. 'Current time' next season will likely be 2008/2009, when the flash forwards have been taking place. The main story arc of season five will be about how Jack and Ben convince the Oceanic 6 to return together. The obvious setting for flashbacks in season five will be on-island events that happen after the island is moved. I think this will happen but there will be on-island flash forwards as well. I'm looking forward to all sorts of crazy episodes next season. I can't wait.
