Last week Sigur Rós made a post eluding to a big announcement coming today. The band had been keeping a video journal during their time in New York and London while working on a new project. These videos were short and showed the band working on a photo shoot a doing some final edits to a few tracks. Today's announcement confirmed what many people where expecting, that there is a new album due from the band within the next month. The name of the album is Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, which means with a buzz in our ear we play endlessly in Icelandic. The new album is said to have the band's first song with English lyrics. While this is an interesting prospect, I think the band's uniqueness is due in part to their use of Icelandic so I'm hoping this won't start a new trend going forward.
Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust will be released on June 24th but listeners of Britain's Radio 1 will get to hear the new single tonight. Titled Gobbledigook, the first single from the new album is also the first track and is said to set the tone for the rest of the album. Two weeks from today, the album should be available to stream from Sigur Rós' website.
On a personal note, I'm looking forward to seeing Sigur Rós live in two weeks at the Uptown in Kansas City, it's gonna be awesome.
