Boom Blox: Zen and the Art of Blowing Shit Up
I picked up a copy of Boom Blox a couple days ago for the Wii. I had heard quite a bit about this from 1up and IGN podcasts, everyone seemed to like it so I figured I'd give it a go. Most of the games these guys talk up on the podcasts don't sound like they'd appeal to me. I had no desire to play Elite Beat Agents, Little Big Planet, etc. But, this seemed different. A few weeks ago I saw a segment on the 1up Show about Boom Blox and it looked like a lot of fun. My first impression was that it was a mix between Jenga and bowling...Super Smash Bros Brawl : WOLF IS BS!
1. No lag down attack that is stupidly powerful and extremely fast, check.
2. Sliding side attack that is also stupid powerful and has minimal recovery time, check.
3. Annoying gun that causes interrupt, check.
4. Smash orb giant tank that knocks people out instantly by running over them, or jumps them out the top, or blasts you with a stupid powerful cannon, check.
5. Friend that uses Wolf yet complains about how powerful every other character in the game is when he wins 3/5 matches, check (also complains about all weapons, except when he has them of course).
ARGHH!
Triumph of the Liams Part I: The Wiimote + Super Smash Brothers Brawl
The Wii itself can't be considered a failure... The Wii's controller however, is a different story. Sure it's innovative, but let's face it - there is a reason game controllers have been built from basically the same blueprint since (at least) the time of the 8-bit NES. While the Wiimote is clever and works brilliantly with games like bowling, golf, baseball and others; trying to use a Wiimote to play any 'conventional' console same (read: Super Smash Bros) is beyond frustrating.
I recently got a copy of Super Smash Brothers and tried to play a little bit of it with a Wiimote. I should preface this pseudo-review by saying that I am impatient and lacked the foresight to order a 'classic' controller when I bought the game. So there I was, with a brand new copy of Super Smash Brothers and my only controllers options were: 1. my Wiimote, and 2. my other Wiimote.
